We have some exciting news to share at The Hearing Care Centre, your local, independent hearing care team in Colchester, West Mersea and Langham!
On 16th November, we’re delighted to welcome Kenny Sams to our team, and we thought it was only fair that you got to know a little about the man behind the ears! 😉
Kenny has spent nearly 10 years working for a major national hearing care retailer, including at one of its flagship stores in Ipswich. But our owner, Oliver, has had his eye on Kenny for quite some time!
Having known Kenny for nearly seven years, Oliver has tried on several occasions to tempt him to join The Hearing Care Centre. Finally, at the end of last year, the stars aligned, and the opportunity came for Kenny to make the move.
So, why The Hearing Care Centre?
Kenny is looking forward to being part of a smaller, family, independent business where he can focus on what matters most: his clients, their individual needs, and helping people rediscover the joy of hearing well. ❤️
But we wanted to find out a little more about Kenny the person, too, so we put him on the spot with a few questions!
🎓 What made you become an audiologist?
Kenny enjoyed biology at school and, after working in an optician’s following college, developed a keen interest in audiology. Seeing the difference hearing aids could make to people’s lives inspired him to become part of that journey.
😊 What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
Seeing people’s lives improve and watching them start enjoying the things they may have been missing out on because of their hearing.
💃 What’s the funniest thing a client has ever said to you?
Kenny once had a 90-year-old lady tell him she still dances three times a week and can still do the splits! And before he could say anything, she stood up and demonstrated! 😂 We think she deserves a round of applause!
❤️ What sound could you never live without?
His son’s laughter.
🙉 What sound would you happily never hear again?
The scraping of a fork or knife on a plate! (We’re sure a few of you will agree with that one!)
🐶 Dogs or cats?
Dogs, without a doubt!
☕ Tea or coffee?
Neither! We know, we know… an unpopular opinion! 😂
🎵 Favourite music?
That’s a tricky one, as Kenny enjoys all sorts of music and couldn’t possibly choose just one favourite.
👂 What’s the biggest misconception about hearing loss?
That wearing hearing aids will make your natural hearing deteriorate more. It’s a concern many people have, but Kenny is keen to help people understand the facts and feel confident about their hearing care.
And finally…
🦻 What’s one thing everyone should know about looking after their ears?
Don’t use cotton buds! Kenny’s made himself very clear on that one! 😉 If you think you have a build-up of earwax, an Ear Health Assessment is the safe way to have your ears checked and cleared.
