Comprehensive Ear Care and Hearing Services in Essex

At The Hearing Care Centre, our qualified audiologists serve as your dedicated ear specialists, providing a full range of clinical hearing and ear health services across our clinics in Colchester, West Mersea, Langham and Marks Tey. Whether you are noticing changes to your hearing, experiencing earwax build-up, or living with tinnitus, we offer expert, personalised care from your very first appointment.

As an independent, family-run practice, we have the freedom to work with the widest range of technology and tailor every recommendation to you, not to any single manufacturer. Below you will find an overview of every service we offer, with links through to full details on each one.

Hearing Tests

Our full hearing assessment is a 90-minute appointment that covers your complete ear health history alongside a range of audiometric tests, including speech in noise testing. Your audiologist will walk you through your results and discuss all available care options so you can make a confident, informed decision about your next steps.

We also offer six-month and annual review appointments to monitor your hearing over time and ensure any devices you wear are performing at their best. Review appointments are included as part of our hearing care packages.

Tinnitus Management

If you are experiencing ringing, buzzing or other persistent sounds in your ears, our tinnitus assessment and management service can help. In a 90-minute consultation, your audiologist will assess your hearing and tinnitus in depth, identify practical strategies to help you minimise the effects, and explore whether hearing devices could bring additional relief.

Where hearing devices are recommended, we offer a 14-day free trial so you can experience the benefits before making any commitment. We will review and adjust your prescription during the trial period to ensure the best possible outcome.

Ear Health Assessment

Our 60-minute Ear Health Assessment takes a thorough look at your ear health from start to finish. It covers a full ear health questionnaire, a detailed examination of your ear canals and eardrums using clinical or video microscopy, tympanometry to assess middle ear function, a hearing screening, and a referral to your GP or ENT specialist if required.

Earwax removal by microsuction or irrigation is included in the assessment if required at the appointment. If you need earwax removal and have wider concerns about your hearing, the Ear Health Assessment is the most efficient way to address everything in a single visit.

Earwax Removal

Blocked or impacted earwax is one of the most common causes of temporary hearing difficulties. If earwax removal is all you need, we offer a standalone appointment without the full assessment. Our audiologists use microsuction or irrigation depending on what is right for your ears, both safe, clinical methods carried out in a calm and unhurried environment.

Standalone earwax removal appointments are available at all four of our Essex clinics.

Did you buy your hearing aids from another provider? We warmly welcome clients who have invested in private hearing devices elsewhere. Our hearing aid optimisation service is designed to ensure you are getting the very best from your existing aids, regardless of where you purchased them.

The service includes a full ear health check, a complete hearing health history review, earwax removal if needed, a thorough in-house service of your devices, a full hearing assessment, and a complete reprogramme of your settings followed by in-clinic sound tests and fine-tuning. Please note that we are unable to support hearing aids issued through the NHS, and a small number of devices may restrict software access, which we can confirm at the time of booking.
