At The Hearing Care Centre, we believe that every individual’s journey is unique and inspiring. This month we’re delighted to feature Adrian Tadman, who has graciously shared his personal experience with us.

Adrian has been a client at the Colchester clinic since 2015, and his story highlights the transformative impact of addressing hearing challenges head-on. From the initial signs of hearing loss to the positive changes following their treatment he offers valuable insights for anyone considering taking the first step toward improved a hearing test.

We hope Adrians’s journey resonates with you as much as it has with us.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and your background?

My name is Adrian Tadman and I have been a customer of the hearing care centre for around 10 years. I have always lived and worked in the Colchester area. I started work straight from school in 1981 with a local Ford main dealer as an apprentice hgv engineer. This was in the days of little to no health and safety or protection. There were no such things as ear defenders in use at the time. My job was in an extremely noisy environment. I left there after 17 years. I also used to love going out to night clubs where again I was subject to noise.  When I was in my thirties, I started to notice that I was struggling in certain situations with my hearing such as watching the television or on the telephone etc.

When did you first notice changes in your hearing and how did it affect your daily life.

I originally had hearing test at Essex County hospital and was prescribed NHS hearing aids. These were horrible I couldn’t stand them. They were extremely uncomfortable and were not good at all. They caused me to become much more withdrawn and anxious.

What made you decide to visit our Hearing Care Centre at Colchester?

I first heard of the hearing care centre in the local paper advertising an open day with free hearing tests. I decided to book up out of curiosity and to see what else was available.

How was your experience with us during your first visit and hearing assessment?

My first experience with the hearing care centre was of a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere with no pressure or hard sell. And that remains to this day.

What solutions or treatment have you found most helpful?

I am now on my third set of aids, and they have improved every time. The first ones were a massive improvement on the NHS ones. My present aids are brilliant, and I can’t recommend them enough.

The best thing that I have is the tv adapter which connects to my aids and has absolutely transformed my ability to be able to listen and hear everything crystal clear. Also, the Bluetooth connectivity which allows me to hear and talk on the telephone through my hearing aids. It has made talking on the phone so much better, whereas before talking on the telephone would cause me stress and worry.

What advice would you give to someone who is unsure about seeking help for their hearing?

My advice to anyone who is struggling is please give the hearing care centre a look and try. All of the staff are really helpful and friendly, and nothing is too much trouble. I cannot recommend them enough.

We’re deeply grateful to Adrian for sharing his story. His journey from struggling with uncomfortable hearing aids to finding a solution that has truly transformed his daily life is a powerful reminder that the right support and technology can make all the difference.
